Are you ready to meet Gypsy Rose?

Oh, Tonight. Tonight is the night Boot Babes! Get ready to meet Gypsy Rose Boots. They are one of the newest additions to the Boots n' Rags selection of great boot brands and hopefully y'all will adopt a pair of your own because from what many Boot Babes have said, these boots are cooler than a cucumber and they won't make you bologna sammich poor when you snag a pair.

Yes, Boot Babes, other than the few lucky gals that bought early, you probably have not heard of Gypsy Rose.  That is because they are brand spakin' new to the boot world but have done their homework on what makes a good boot and how to make it afforable for all us strugglin' b oot addicts out there. Especially us with 4 legged critters to support too! I can tell you that they are a small family company based in good ole TEXAS.  Is there a better place for a boot company to start? I think not.  Better yet, when buying these from Boots n' Rags you are not supporting one small business but two small businesses from the home of great boots and I do mean Texas y'all!

The Gypsy Rose Boots are made of all leather. 100%. Top to toe.  That can't be beat! Also, they know that boots need to last which is why they use the tried and true Goodyear welt construction.  These may be for Babes on a budget but you are not sacrificing quality! Yep, this means Babes get a lot of bang for their bucks!

There is a TON of variety in what Gypsy Rose offers. There are both snip and wide square toe styles to choose from.  This will make any Boot Babe happy and the square toe is a wonderful inclusion because many makers neglect this popular toe style but not Gypsy Rose.  There are many colors of their boots available too but the best part is the traditional embroidery and designs. These are pure classic cowgirl boots!  Gypsy Rose sure did know how to put the icing on Boot Babes cake with adding the perfect amount of studs and rhinestones to help all of  us Boot Babes sparkle and shine  no matter what we are doing.

The reviews from our own Boot Babes say these are way cool boots to try y'all and with this price tag, you don't have to be scared to party on and work hard when you are wearing them.  From what I have heard, they are holding up well to the paces Boot Babes have been putting them through.  From field to floor these can get you there and keep you looking good!

Love y’all and until next time, let your boots rock your socks!

On Trend! Boot fashion alert!

I know, I know.  Sometimes Boot Babes don't give a rip what other people say is cool because we blaze our own path and while we have our own sense of Fashionista somewhere between Iris Apfel and Miranda Lambert.  So what does this mean for us Boot Babes and why does it matter? Well you see, what the high highfalutin big wigs in fashion say is "in" or "on trend" determines what the boot companies offer the little people like us Boot Babes.

Iris Apfel in all of her fashionista glory.

So here is my take on what we can expect to see this year from our favorite boot makers like Old Gringo and Lane! Shorties, round toes, high heels, fringe, and heavy metal are what I do declare to be the hottest looks around for your boots this season.  Also expect to see color and LOTS of it.  Who's got time for boring boots anyway?

Revamped Golondrita and Letty from Old Gringo on the runway.

Shooties, booties, shorties!

All things short and sassy!  The boot makers are even further blurring the lines between boots and sandals and y'all it is HOT!!! It is all the bad girl of a boot with sandal comfort and ohhhh and the versatility!  If it ain't your thing, that is cool too Babes, but if you love this look more options than ever before are coming your way!

Round and round and round!

I know so many Boot Babes love a good round toe and welp, the round toe is now hotter than ever before!  Both Lane and Old Gringo are introducing fresh looks where the round toe is the star!  It is big on comfort as always but now it is easier to find in lots of cool styles!

The higher the heel...

Umm humm! Get sexy y'all!  The high heel is so in! It is appearing on a boat load of new boots from a chunky block heel on round toe classic boots to some this ain't your Momma's kinda cowgirl boots. Be ready to rock these higher heels because they are in it to win it y'all!

On the fringe!

Fringe is not going anywhere! It is fun, funky, and oh so fashionable.  What we can expect to see is a little tad of fringe on lots of boots Boot Babes. The makers are using it a little bit of fringe on lots and lots of boots! It is still fringe fun but with some new an unexpected twists. Babes, the new boots are gonna be singing "I've got fringe in allll places!".

Hard core metal!

Ohh y'all! Metal in studs grommets, and big ole conchos is so in right now! This is probably music to most Boot Babe's ears. Metal accents can really add that special southwestern or rocker chick vibe that is more edgy.  Boot Babes, look for traditional styles that you have seen before but with even more metal! Word on the streets is that the Old Gringo Iron Eagle is taking a heavy metal turn into the METAL EAGLE and boy is it ever HOT!

You Stepped in What?

So Boot Babes, we all know that our boots can get us through darn near anything but what happens when we get in some real bull, mud, muck, or what have you. Well, y'all already know that as women, we get the pleasure of cleaning up more of life's little messes than we can shake a stick at and cleaning our boots is no different. What it is and what kind of boots we are working with will make a little bit of difference in how you clean up what you done went and got yourself into.

First of all, you can't always control what you get into because STUFF happens and Murphy's Law always prevails, what you can do is to pick the right boots for what y'all anticipate gettin' into.  What I am saying here is don't y'all go muddin', to clean stalls, or cut pigs in your $800 Old Gringo boots and then fuss. NOPE. If you know or think you might be doing something that would ruin your gorgeous, made me eat bologna for a week boots DON'T YOU DO IT GIRL. Yeah, you will look good alright but you will hate yourself in the morning.  Pick an all leather boot or even a cute little rubber number for that stuff and leave your pretty boots for when you are cleaned up, NOT for when you know you have a dirty job to do.  Embroidery, exotics, and suede and all of the above ain't friends!

Double D Ranch by Old Gringo

Just Leather Y'all

So on your pretty leather boots, not exotic leathers but pig, goat, cow, yeah those, You still need to clean them to keep them by your side for a good long while. This ain't easy y'all but I promise it is worth it because your boots are an investment.  Before you wear, always treat!  The Boot Babe likes Meltonian leather protector personally. After this, get going and wear them boots.  When you are done finished workin' or playin' brush off what you can, knock off what is stuck to the soles and wipe with your dry rag.  If the sole is not leather, I usually sit it in the utility sink with just a tad bit of water while I clean. I do not soak my leather soles.  For them, I do wet my rag and wipe the sole real good after I am done with the rest of the boot. If the mess is not one to write home about, brush off the excess, and wipe with your favorite conditioner.  That is all. To clean the rest of the boot when there is a big ole mess I prefer saddle soap but I have even used what ever dish soap is on the utility sink.  I use a damp rag and what ever cleaner I have and scrub the mess away.  It is just basic cleaning. Nothing real fancy.
Meltonian

Saddle Soap

I rinse my rag and then rinse the boot.  Now, if it is a mess of colossal proportions, it will not kill ya or the dang boot to just soak and scrub the whole thing or to spray it off first.  Don't leave life's mess on your boots!  Make sure to get in the cracks and crevices of inlays and around the welt (the thread on the sole), Babes, leaving gunk will cause the thread to deteriorate and we do not want that sort of nonsense.  If you want to make it white or really light again, you can use a little peroxide on a qtip.

Bick 4

The next step is crucial Boot Babes.  Condition the boots, use something like Cadillac or Bick 4 after every time you wear your boots. This is especially crucial after they have been wet.  Even if you do not wear your boots, pull them out and condition them every so often to keep the leather healthy.

Cadillac

If you notice a nick or scratch or scuff, keep buffing with your conditioner and it will help.  If you have oil tanned boots and want to deep condition them, mink oil is your friend Boot Babes!  It can help darken faded spots too but be warned y'all, IT WILL DARKEN lighter leather.

Mink Oil

Embroidery

So you went and ruined your boots? Not so fast! There is hope!  Again bush off all of that excess STUFF and look at the thread.  Before you soak the boot or anything else, you need some cotton balls, qtips, or a light clean rag.  DAB and I do mean dab and blot the dirty embroidery with cold water and nothing else.  If it comes off, great, continue to conditioning and condition around the thread, not on it if you can help it.  If the dang thread is still grungy, try some Ivory soap or Dawn on a wet qtip. Lightly dab, them dab with a damp cotton ball or paper towel to rinse.  If it is still stubborn, try some peroxide the same way.   Then wipe the whole boot with your damp cloth, ALWAYS use cold water on embroidery Boot Babes!  Let the embroidery dry and then condition as usual.

Stetson, perfect for when you know STUFF will happen

Studs and Stones

Well if you have STUFF all caked around your studs and stones, be careful! DON'T WET THESE Y'ALL!   The stones are usually glued or set with metal bezels so the water will weaken the glue and will cause the metal pieces to rust and y'all that ain't pretty!   Boot Babes, here you will bush off what you can gently, then wipe well with a clean and dry rag.  Then use a qtip that is dry to rub around the stones and studs. The next step is to use the rag and ever ever ever so lightly dampen it and wring it out better than you have any mop in your life.  Wipe the boot and then condition but don't let the conditioner bunch around the studs or stones because it is worse than water at rusting and eating glue.  For these, I add maybe a thin dime sized amount on my rag before I dampen it and them smear it all around on the rag as I dampen it, then wring, then use the diluted conditioner and follow with a wipe from another clean and dry cloth to dry any excess water or conditioner. You have to make sure to get around the stones and studs very very well and this is time consuming Boot Babes. It is worth it though y'all because boots with stones and studs are the that ones I bet you spend the most of your boot budget on.

Exotics

Well now ain't you a fancy Boot Babe if you go play in your exotic boots!  For these, again brush off anything and use a WATER BASED conditioner that is made for exotic skins like ostrich and reptile. These are the most fragile and need some boot love even if you don't wear them a lot! Keep them clean, conditioned, and dust free y'all!

Exotic

Suede

You better hope you listened to The Boot Babe and pretreated these babies with Scotchguard!  Try not to get them wet, in mud, or overall NASSSTY.  If you do and even if you pretreated, they may bite the dust and become your hottest and most expensive work boots!   So, pretreat, be careful, bush away the excess and lightly wipe with the barely barely damp cloth only on the dirty area. DON'T SOAK, DON'T use conditioner. Got it y'all! Good!

Scotchguard

Well there you have my tips and hints to keep your boots safe and how to get them clean through whatever you get into. Even after a night at the bar, the rodeo, or a day at the office, wipe your boots and take the time to condition before you put them away.  Hit the high spots on the steps above each time you slip your boots off Boot Babes! Your boots will thank you!

Love y’all and until next time, let your boots rock your socks!

But you Never Have my Size! Understanding Samples and Sample Sales!

Y'all. We have got to have a talk.  Ok, I know we all dream of finding our dream pair of boots at unbelievable prices. I know that some come away from sample sales happy as a lark while others feel like they just can't win.  I just want to break down what is going on and give y'all the skinny on what is up with samples and why the sizing is the way it is.

First of all if you are other than a 7, 7.5, or 9 sample sales can be gut wrenching.  There is no doubt about that. No one hates you. No stores or boot makers are against you. It is not that they do not make your size or think your size doesn't matter. Nope.  It is a lot more sciency and mathematical than that and not discriminatory at all ladies.  Really y'all! See, 'rithmatic matters and your teachers were not crazy that you would need it as an adult!

What is a sample?

So we know what we are dealing with let me say, sample boots ain't stock y'all!  We've got to look at what the samples exactly are. The boot samples are sort of the prototype that the rest of the boots with that name, style number, color, and all that jazz are patterned after.  They are the first out the gate.  They are used as a promotional item. Boot Babes, the sample boots are the ones we see in print advertisement, they are what we see at trunk shows, they are what stores see and pick from at market (HELLO WESA), and they are in the catalogs that stores pick their stock from.

So, the sample may have been pawed all over. Ok, it likely as been. They dang sure have been around if ya know what I mean. The sample may vary a smidgen from what gets to final production.  A sample boot may never make it to production and be an oh my gosh, UNICORN!

But, where is MY SIZE?

Boot Babes, let's think about clothes first. I think most American gals these days know we ain't even close to being a sample size.  For clothing the "Sample" sizes for print are a 4-6. Some of us can do that, many can't.  For runway it is an even smaller 0.  That is the  fashion industry standard.  So, yes there are maybe 12 lucky heifers that can snag those gorgeous and out there runway samples and lots more than can grab the size 4-6 samples used in print at a fraction of the retail price but the rest of us just have to go to the store and either pay full retail or wait for it to go on sale and hope they have our sizes left.  Even if you are in that enviable "perfect" by industry standard size range, there ain't gonna be enough to go around at the sample sale price because the manufacturer does not make a ton of samples. They are done in onezies and twozies or a handful at best.

Let's move on to boots y'all following the same concept.  Boot makers make maybe 1-2 pair as samples.  For women's boots and shoes the industry standard is a 7.  This can be a 7, 7 1/2, and sometimes a 9.  WHY do they do this?  See, this is where the math comes in y'all.  A size 7 shoe is said to be the perfect size for print when you look at proportions. It is believed to be the most aesthetically pleasing size for print.  Pretty much, it looks the best for the ads.  That is why the boot makers choose the 7 and 7.5 and sometimes 9 to be their  "Sample Sizes".  It is not to neglect the rest of the sizes.  They do not think about resale value on the samples at all. It is because they expect if you love it that you will buy in your size it at the regular retail price.

What else is in the "Sample Sales" and is all hope lost?

Well y'all everyone does it differently.  Some makers sell returns during sample sales so see y'all there is SOME hope left for other sizes.  Also, some choose to sell runway and boots from photo shoots in sample sales. Just so you know, you may get a boot that has been worn in a sample sale!

Sometimes, you get lucky and also find discontinued boots in these sales.  These vary wildly in sizes and may be only in a 5 and an 11 because that is all that was left over. Somtimes these are the display boots from stores that have been dropped, tried on, touched and what have you or it might be still new in the box. Again, y'all it is a toss up on if boots like this are included and you need to pull out your old Magic 8 Ball to figure out what sizes might be left over and if they will be in pristine condition.

I saw it and now want it!

Boot Babes, I have a be a little bit of a downer here but The Boot Babe wants to keep it real 'cause I love y'all and friends don't BS  friends when it comes to serious matters like boot shopping.  Even if you see it, YOU MAY NEVER FIND IT.  Not all boots we see online, at market, or in sample sales made it to production. It all comes down to what stores like and order.  You may see the most shut the front door gorgeous boots ever, but if no one orders it, the one you see is all there may ever be. Talk about a needle in a haystack y'all!

If y'all get lucky and the store's buyers love that beaut as much as you, well hot dog it will be in stores! Here again Boot Babes, I gotta keep it real.  More than likely, it will be at regular retail prices or maybe with a teeeeennnncy discount.  This is because the stores pay MORE for stock.  They can't even get the boots at the sample prices themselves.  In exchange for the higher price here is what you get: A boot that most likely has not been tried on, for sure should not have been worn, a boot where the bugs like loose studs and faulty zippers have been worked out, A BRAND NEW IN THE BOX pair of boots that until you wear them has been in the box.

IF YOU ARE PICKY AND A PERFECTIONIST ABOUT WEAR, HAVING YOUR TOOTSIES ONLY IN FRESH BOOTS, AND HAVING THE CORRECT BOX, ONLY BUY NEW AND FROM STORES THAT DO NOT DISPLAY ALL OF THEIR BOOTS. You will be much happier if you do this rather than telling yourself you can make do with a sample because many sample boots ain't perfect. They are amazing and cool at a great price but perfect and untouched is not their thing? Ok? Good.

Size Matters!

The most popular sizes are 7 1/2-9 for gals.  That makes for some fierce competition in these sizes.  Let me tell y'all, I promise the stores order MORE of these sizes than the adorable 5's and 6's and that the poor 10's and 11's are lucky to get even a single pair ordered.  Stores DO NOT WANT LEFTOVERS and they dang sure do not want left overs of hard to move sizes!!!  They want what will sell.  That is why there are few big and small sizes ordered and why the popular sizes are ordered in a larger quantity but very few are left over. Darn it at the math again!

Boot Babes, let me stress again, please do not get peeved if you are not a 7 or 7.5 during the sample sale and feel like no one orders your size! It is not intentional at all but we know it ain't fair and ain't pretty. Don't fret though, if you are the standard average size, you will always be more likely to find your size in stock and can still have a beautifully stocked boot closet!  Just don't hate the stores or the makers, throw all that shade at those dang heifers blessed with the size 7 and 7 1/2 feet.  Who knew being a 7 in boots was just as lucky and enviable as being a size 0 but with the benefit of never having to pass up Waffle House or Whataburger to stay your size?

Love y’all and until next time, let your boots rock your socks!
